Project overview#

The Multimedia project is dedicated to the development of software that supports audio and video based technologies in a number of ways:

  • APIs for controlling playback of media
  • setup of device storage configuration (CDROM, USB, CDDA etc)
  • management of device insertion and removal
  • finding and itemizing media content on devices and streams
  • extracting and managing media meta-data
  • managing data persistence and media libraries
  • connecting media filters, readers, writers, decoders, encoders to inputs and outputs
  • supporting hardware-assist (eg DSPs)
  • supporting intelligent media players such as iPods and PlaysForSure media players, including DRM content

This functionality was introduced by QNX in the Aviage Multimedia Suite 1.0 and continues to evolve to meet the needs of this fast-changing area of technology.

What's in it for developers?#

  • The initial purpose of the Multimedia project on Foundry27 is to distribute binary releases of Multimedia software currently in development. Later in 2008, the project will evolve to facilitate community software development for Multimedia technologies.

Downloads#

  • Multimedia downloads are currently restricted to participants of the Aviage MM 1.1 Alpha Program (see Project Downloads link).

License(s)#

The QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite integrates a variety of QSS proprietary, open source and third party technologies in order to deliver a broad range of multimedia capabilities. The current version of the QNX Development Suite License Guide (http://licensing.qnx.com/license-guide/) provides a detailed explanation of the associated licensing considerations (including licensing prerequisites and exceptions). You should carefully review the License Guide before you download any QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite software.
