It seems it stops there, no install shield dialog opens, no processes seems to have been started...

Any known problems/workarounds?

Got it!

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

This was in the Installation Note (inst_6.4.1_linux.html) on the DVD, I've got to learn to RTFM one of these days, Duh!
