Forum Topic - IDE in QNX6.4 Momentics Host: (9 Items)

IDE in QNX6.4 Momentics Host
Are there plans to return IDE to the QNX6.4 Momentics Host Platform?
Re: IDE in QNX6.4 Momentics Host
Just to clarify: "QNX Momentics" is the tool suite (i.e. the IDE and command-line tools), and "QNX Neutrino" is the OS.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no plans to bring the IDE back to self-hosted Neutrino systems. Someone from
Product Management might be able to give you more information.
Re: IDE in QNX6.4 Momentics Host
Its really funny because, they have a beautiful OS with self hosting capability but they dont support it for using it in
 daily life, I need Momentics IDE then get a Windows/Linux box install Momentics for Windows/Linux.
doesn't really sound cool does it ?

Does that mean you're to blame for self hosted not supporting Eclipse anymore?

Re: RE: IDE in QNX6.4 Momentics Host
me as an individual - I would like to see a self hosted IDE.
Which still wont give me the chance to work with.
->big company
->big IS departemant
->mainstream tools and work/office env
.....
and those who set that kind of discissions are definitely not on f27

Re: IDE in QNX6.4 Momentics Host
Option 1: use older IDE 4.0.1 on Neutrino 6.4.0 host
You can run the IDE that shipped with Neutrino 6.3.2 on Neutrino 6.4.0
Since the IDE 4.0.1 Neutrino installer script won't run on Neutrino 6.4.0 due to the change in the tail utility, I've
attached the zip file for your experimental use.
Certain features won't work (lile code coverage and application profiling) because the command line tools in 6.4.0 are
newer than 6.3.2
But it will build projects and it will do it with the same performance as it does on 6.3.2

BTW, the IDE 4.5 was not included with Neutrino 6.4.0 due to poor performance. Everything ran 4x slower due to the newer
 eclipse incompatibility with the current Perc JVM. The development resources to fix this in time for release were not
available.

Option 2: Use VMware player to run Neutrino 6.4.0 x86 target on your development host with IDE 4.5

If you want to use the new features of IDE 4.5, Ii recommend linux red hat host (it is faster than windows) and run the
neutrino 640 vmware image on a vmplayer on the same box
The vmware image is included in the DVD download (or you can make your own)
This way you can do x86 target development on the same host

Re: IDE in QNX6.4 Momentics Host
That is a good point to make. In the beginning, IBM's J9 was used to run the IDE on Self hosted. This worked out
pretty well. J9 did a fairly good job of running the IDE. Unfortunately, because J9 was a J2ME VM, with java 1.3.1
compatibility, it meant that when Eclipse went to a 1.5 requirement, J9 was not longer an option to run the IDE. The
Perc VM was brought in to run the IDE because it was 1.5 compliant. It did an okay job at running the IDE, but it was
found to be lacking in certain areas which hurt the performance of the IDE over time.

Really what needs to be done to get the IDE to work on a self hosted system is to port the OpenJDK VM or the Apache
Harmony VM. I'm not implying this is trivial, and the fact that it isn't is why there isn't an IDE on self hosted.

Here are the links to each of the projects if someone wanted to take a look:
