Forum Topic - I must be thick - Where the hell is QNX Nutrino ??: (4 Items)

I must be thick - Where the hell is QNX Nutrino ??
OK, ive had enough of M.Soft so decided i need to learn more about POSIX systems and QNX seems good because i like
number crunching in C etc etc and i like th concept of a RTOS.

So, easy i thought, ive downloaded red-hat, ubuntu - installed no problem, lets try QNX.

So how the hell do you download and install it?

The only thing i can find is Momentics and it says 'includes the QNX Nuetrino RTOS', so i installed on XP and its just
an IDE.

So where and how do i download the RTOS to install on a pc with no current OS on it.

Am i being incredably thick or is QNX not a dedicated OS that will boot on its own like red-hat, ubuntu etc??

Any help greatly appreciated because im beiginning to think i need brain surgery.

Many thanks

Liam

What you need is the QNX Momentics for QNX Neutrino Self-hosted. You can find it at the same place where you downloaded
the QNX Momentics for Windows. To be more specific, the download link is here:

http://www.qnx.com/products/getmomentics/

The release note and install note are on the same page of the download link.

What you will get is a file called "6.3.2-nto632-200709062316.iso". This is an ISO image containing the boot-able
operation system. Use your preferred CD burning software to create a CD from the ISO image, and boot your x86 PC with
the CD. Following the installation instruction. You may want to install all components of the operation system so you
can evaluate the system in its full capacity.

Remember you need a license key to install. I believe you should have one already since you have installed the Windows
version. Use the same key to install the self-hosted version.

Thanks.

RE: I must be thick - Where the hell is QNX Nutrino ??
Hi Abhishek,
Actually you will need to download the Momentics for self hosted. Here
is how it works.
Download the .iso for the QNX Neutrino Host and burn it to a CD. Boot
your target PC with that CD. This will install the OS and the
development tools. The Lite version will also install the OS on your PC
but it will only have tools to develop for an x86 target. Just use the
link Andy provided to get a copy. If you don't want to have the
development tools installed because of hard drive restraints then you
will need to create an image using the X86 bios BSP and load that.
Since you are new to QNX I would recommend you stick to the Momentics
installs.

Cheers.
