Upgrade from QNX 4.21 to QNX 4.25
Hello!

I work in a factory that has QNX 4.21 installed on 5 machines - Compaq 486, running a software called Rolldata. We wanna
upgrade this system to a more actual one mainly becouse of the old hardware and the lack of spare parts for them -
mainly HDD and ISA Novell NIC's.
I downloaded the 2008 Upgrade CD - but i get a message when i try to install QNX 4.25 Operating system - in upgrade node
becouse of the licence problem - older licence model - saying that Archive read error. I try with different cd unit, 2
 burned cd's and no luk!
Please help us!
With regards'

I'm afraid I have no advice on your licensing problems, but I hope you won't mind this little plug. I just wanted to
point out that we are still selling QNX 4 compatible NE-2000 compatible ISA NIC's (see http://www.betech.biz/B&E%20TECH/
PDF_files/B&E_104.pdf).

An archive read problem sounds as though you have a problem with the
install CD rather than a licensing problem.

Thank you for your reply, i will try with a 3-rd CD. In the meantime can you indicate a solution like using a specific
instal command? Something like /bin/install -u <upgrade kit filename>?
RE: RE: Upgrade from QNX 4.21 to QNX 4.25
You have to boot from the install CD, but you will need licenses in the
new format. You will most probably have to talk to your sales rep to get
your licenses upgraded.

About the license the only solution I know about is to contact QSS to convert your old license to the new one.

Re: RE: Upgrade from QNX 4.21 to QNX 4.25
Using "use license" under the cd - it says that is treating old style license prior to v4.23 in the /etd/licenses and
the new type in .licenses.
So that's why I wana make an upgrade. The people from we brought the license in not longer working. And now we try to
make contact to annother firm. But it take's time.

We really wanna try new hardware - PII and PIII but we need those new Fsys* drivers - that I think is working only under
 v4.25 (patch G or..).
From where do I find a Proc and a Slib so I can build annother .boot file?
Re: RE: Upgrade from QNX 4.21 to QNX 4.25
I want to update my post - the error that I have - saying that "Archive read error" it's a tricky - in a shell windows
it says - whatever command I type (ls, sin info etc... ):
//1/hd0.0/bin/ksh(or ls, sin, etc.) terminated (SIGSEGV) at 000F:000005507 (different address - 0007:00006568 for ls and
 0005:00005317 for sin as examples)
sh(or ls, sin, etc.) terminated with signal 11 (same number)

Could anybody cand give me some thoughts for this errors?
The machine is a K6II at 300MHz, 128MB SDRAM.

I have to mention that this machine run QNX 4.21 with all the software up and running using a HDD from the node 1,
production station(witch is a Compaq 486 DX2 at 66MHz with 12MB of RAM - 16MB less 4 for the BIOS I belive) .

Thanks!
RE: RE: Upgrade from QNX 4.21 to QNX 4.25
My guess is a hardware problem. Probably memory. Or a corrupted file

Re: RE: RE: Upgrade from QNX 4.21 to QNX 4.25
Hello again!

I used the CD with a different license and it worked, then I installed my license using :
license /hd1/etc/licenses /etc/licenses
where /hd1 was the mounting point to original hdd and make another attempt with upgrade and this time it worked fine (
upgraded my Watcom C compiler).
I try now to upgrade the other 2 nodes with HDD and the real life test(in the factory).

So, apparently the error is the license. I suspect that is the license for the operating system - named for the ksh
shell. Can anyone have other ideas?

With respect,
George D.
