Expanding QNX Primary Partition Help
I have a HDD with 4 primary QNX partitions. It was cloned from a 20GB HDD to a 40GB HDD. The new HDD still has the
same 20GB available for storage.

I would like to expand the 4th partition to be able to use the new additional space. I am not all that familiar with the
QNX OS and am only learning by what I can find on various forums.

I have tried Partition Magic 8.0 to expand the partition but the option to do that is grayed out. It says the file
system is unknown. Several other attempts with freeware utilities that I have downloaded and created a CD boot disk
have not worked, either.

With Partition Magic it would at least permit me to delete the 4th partition and create a new one. I thought perhaps I
could use that method instead of trying to expand an existing one. However, it asks for the partition type, such as
NTFS, FAT32, etc. None of the available options say anything about QNX.

Can anyone here provide any information on how I can expand or create a new 4th partition to make use of the larger HDD
storage space? Thank you in advance for your time.

You can`t expand it. To delete and recreate it use QNX fdisk.

First, thank you for your quick reply. I downloaded and burned a boot CD of a QNX software suite. It boots up to QNX
installer 2009. I do not want to install QNX on my computer. All I need QNX for is to apparently go into fdisk and
delete then create a new primary partition on a 40GB HDD that is connected via USB.

The ISO that I downloaded is QNX4CD.091105a.ISO. I thought that I would be able to run fdisk from the boot CD but it
just appears to be an installer for QNX. I'm not sure what would happen if I attempt to install it on my Windows XP HDD
and I certainly do not want it to wipe out my existing OS. I do have around 15GB of unallocated space on it.

Is there some QNX Live CD that I can use to do this without having to install the entire OS to my computer?
Re: RE: Expanding QNX Primary Partition Help
I know it has been a while but I was finally able to delete and create an expanded partition on my new HDD, thus using
all available space. My problem now is trying to get the files from the old HDD partition 4 onto the newly expanded
partition on the new HDD.

My old HDD is failing and the normal method of going into QNX > Utilities > File Manager and copying and pasting the
files is not working. QNX doesn't even list the old HDD. It still does show the partitions on it when I go into
terminal mode and type "fdisk /dev/hd20". I'm hoping that there's a way to copy and paste these files via the terminal
mode.

Can anyone tell me the terminal command line I would need to type in order to copy all of the files from /dev/hd20
partition 4 over to /dev/hd30 partition 4? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Re: Expanding QNX Primary Partition Help
I presume that you are running QNX4? If so, you will first have to mount
the old disk (mount /dev/hd20t77 /disk2). I am also assuming that the
/dev/hd30 disk is mounted as /. If that is the case, you can then use 'cp'
to copy your files in a terminal window from /disk2 to the new disk. Do a
'use cp' to see the cp options.
