Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Well that means that interrupts aren¹t occurring. Please can you send me a
good sloginfo output?

Thanks, Hugh.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Girish,

Please can you start the driver as follows and send me the good sloginfo
output:

io-pkt-v4 de1000 did=0x10ec,verbose=3

I am getting sloginfo output from both e1000 devices, which is confusing the
issue.

Thanks, Hugh.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Attached are two logs. One with verbose=3 and other with verbose=4 for just the 0x10ea device as you requested.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
I have added some logic to the driver to use the house-keeping callout to
probe the link status if the link isn¹t up, so please will you try the
attached driver and let me know whether there is any improvement. If not,
please send me the sloginfo again just from the 0x10ec device.

Many thanks, Hugh.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Hugh,

I have been running this driver for around 3+ hours now and there has not been any failure. Normally we were able to
reproduce the issue in 5 mintues so these are certainly good signs. I shall let it go for the entire day and shall keep
two different platforms running over the weekend to check on the stability.

Is this a permanent fix that you are looking at ? Also if this driver goes through can we provide it to our customer to
try it out ? Do you intend to provide another driver with all debug code removed or will this be the final driver we can
use hence forth just so that incase you are, we shall keep that driver for week long test ?

Regards,
Girish
Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Hi Girish,

That is good news! If your testing is successful, I will remove the debug
and give you a new driver.

Many thanks, Hugh.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Hugh,
Its been running for around 5 hours now. I believe if you could provide us with a clean driver that we could pass to our
customer, we can put this driver for a weekend long test on a fresh system. Once confirmed that all is ok and it goes
through the week long test, we shall pass this driver to our customer on Monday.
Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Here you go.

Hugh.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
One more question. Do you think it would be worth asking our customers to apply the "patch-650-2338-RS3775_x86-650-
updates.tar" patches ? We are already applying the official io-pkt patch already available.
Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
It is always advisable to have the latest patch installed, but looking at
our web site, there is a later patch 2530 which should be installed.

Hugh.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Yupp have already installed patch 2530 but I though the 2338 had some other updates knowing that on the site 2530
mentioned only io-pkt update. Also we do not have access to the releases note if available for 2338 to figure out what
has changed as its not available from the standard path on the site. We shall stick with only 2530 if this is all that
is needed and also advise our customer to update the same. Thanks

Girish
Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
I wasn¹t able to find patch 2338 on our web site. Where did you find it?

Thanks, Hugh.

Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
Re: 82577 Sporadic Link Issue
OK, that patch was an update for startup-apic and pci-bios-v2 to correct
some problems we had with MSI interrupts. The e1000 driver was included as
it had some updates as well. If you are using startup-apic and pci-bios-v2,
then yes, this patch should be installed, but the e1000 driver I gave you is
the latest.

Hugh.
