I think the issue is that some form of verification needs to be passed back to the vmware host process. I'm trying to use VMware Workstation 11 (trial version for now) on Windows 7 x64 pro. I have created the VM with the accelerated graphics option enabled (as per the graphics patch release notes), installed QNX660 from the VMware ISO image and then copied the files described in the graphics patch across. I did get a warning from VMware that 3D acceleration wasn't supported on this target (I had the guest OS set to "Other"). I set GRAPHICS_ROOT to "/usr/lib/graphics/VMware" and LD_LIBRARY_PATH to "/usr/lib:/lib:/lib/dll:$GRAPHICS_ROOT". gpu_drv seems to run OK, there are no error messages and the process remains running after the prompt reappears. When I try to run screen after that I just get an error saying "Memory fault (core dumped!)". I have attached a copy of the sloginfo output and have noticed a few things: - "3D disabled by host." - seems the warning in VMWare about 3D acceleration not being supported in the guest OS causes it to be disabled? - invalid items in the graphics.conf file - are these caused by the above? At this point I'm pretty lost as I find the documentation difficult to digest and I cannot find any other problems like this on the QNX, F27 or more general internet. As an aside I tried to use vesabios instead of vmware in the GRAPHICS_ROOT. I don't run gpu_drv in that case (is that correct? it complains about not finding libvmwsvga.so so I assume it is hardcoded for VMWare driver) but I can then run screen and use display_image to successfully display an image so I assume screen is running OK under vesabios at this point. However, the ultimate aim would be to use GLES2 so I'd prefer to use native drivers. Can anyone suggest what I might need to do to fix this or do I need to provide more information? Thanks. I guess a few references to rc.local and rc.sysinit got missed in the documentation. We've recently removed them, and we hope to update the docs on the website soon. The buildfile for the virtual machine runs startup.sh, but I haven't tried using it. Also, starting things from .profile is fine for some situations, but not for my use case of sshd, because I want to be able to log into the system remotely, even when my user is not logged in locally. There are also other situations where processes need to be started before a user logs in. Also, which documentation are you refering to? The document I am following is "QNX Neutrino RTOS User's Guide" downloaded from the official website about two months ago. However, the rc.local script does not seem to be run automatically on startup. Digging a bit deeper, I found out that rc.local should be started by /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, which does not seem to be started either. Instead, only /etc/rc.d/startup_aps.sh (or, depending on the filesystem imag I select on boot, /etc/rc.d/startup.sh) seems to be run automatically on startup. Outside of the Virtual Machine (in Windows environment), the touch monitor is calibrated OK and the touch is accurate, but within the QNX4.25 VM, I can not calibrate it accurately. It even shows the touch drifting, i.e. with the same caliibration, the repeated touching of the same spot can make the cursor move to different spots. Off the top of my head the easiest thing to try is using a smaller virtual disk. I don't recall what the limits were but it is easy enough to try and see if that makes a difference. Usually when you get just the dots it means the disk geometry is different between what the bios (virtual bios in this case) thinks and what QNX thinks. Hope that helps, Rick.. Our developers each have their own rack mount server where they run VMware to host a number of VMs containing different OS's and source branches that they are working on. They attach remotely to the server from Windows machines. For QNX VMs they usually have remote graphical access through VMware's remote console or QNX's Phindows. Graphical access to the remote server's underlying CentOS is done using NX Free Remote Desktop. The PowerEdge servers have graphics cards in them and are running a local copy of the XOrg desktop. The local graphics driver is configured for 24 bit color. We have been using the above setup for QNX 6.3.X for a few years now and really like it. I just recently tried the first install of QNX 6.4.0 and found that Photon won't start up. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should try to get Photon running on this system? I just made a copy of the normal SMP build file and added the BusLogic driver. Trouble is, you have to do this in a non-VM and then convert the disk to a VM. First of all, VMware ESX(i) does not support IDE hard drives, only SCSI. But SCSI support is available for a QNX-compatible Buslogic host adapter, so it should be ok. There are two problems that I see that prevent this from working: First, On both the 6.3.0SP3 and 6.3.2 installation CDs, in /etc/system/enum/devices/block, there are two lines for the Mylex/Buslogic controllers, one of which is the correct one, but then the "requires" line loads the AMD driver instead of Buslogic!! And second, devb-btmm does not auto-detect the virtual Buslogic controller, even though it's a supported model. If you manually specify the I/O port and IRQ, then it loads properly. Note also that looking at our development system, once QNX is installed, /etc/system/enum/devices/block is correct, or at least tries to load the BusLogic driver, unlike the one on the CD. Here is the excerpt from /etc/system/enum/devices/block on the installation CD: device(pci, $(PCI_VEND_MYLEX), 1040) # Buslogic device(pci, $(PCI_VEND_MYLEX), 8130) # Buslogic requires(devb-amd $(DEVB_OPTIONS), "amd pci=$(index)") Note how it detects the Buslogic controller and then loads devb-amd! The problem exist on my systems only when the mouse speed is set to the lowest speed. The problem with the virtual boarders is only present when the host resolution is the same as the guest resolution (1024x768). On a second system with a resolution of 1680x1050 I have at the lowest mouse speed only the problem that the speed of the mouse movement is not constant and very slow at the borders. When the mouse speed is set to the second step I have no problems on both systems. If desired I can provide a 300MB ISO image with which the error can be reproduced. I did the following on a slightly reconfigured version of the virtual machine which is provided on the September 2007 Evaluation DVD: #ls /dev/h* /dev/hd0 /dev/hd0t79 /dev/hd1 /dev/hd1t77 #ls /fs cd0 ms-dos-floppy ramdisk #slay io-usb #/root/usb-final/io-usb -d/root/usb-final/devu-uhci.so # #check io-usb launched, plugin USB drive, acknowledge VMware msg #ls /dev/h* /dev/hd0 /dev/hd0t79 /dev/hd1 /dev/hd1t77 #ls /fs cd0 ms-dos-floppy ramdisk On a version 5 vm, I tried both with and without the line: uhci.newCore="FALSE" I also tried without the line on a version 6 vm. What am I doing wrong? If I'm doing nothing wrong, can someone provide me with a virutal machine on which this has been shown to work. Does USB work any better on the new VMware Server 2 beta? Please let me know how it worked out.
