I'm not sure that I understand the question.  You can't add a layer 3
route to a layer 2 MAC address (?)

I am trying to add route and the command I have given is

route add -host destipaddr gw(local system addr)

it's added in the route but i am not able to ping.

i want to add instead of gateway(ip addr),  mac address(eth1) because i
have seen other routes which are pinging in gateway option it's showing
mac address through which the packets are transferring,

so please let me know the solution.
