I am starting to consider dropping native 6.3.2 qnet entirely for qnet over IP. Will I loose some speed or functionality
? If so, what and how much of it? Will I ever notice?

This is a spinoff from another topic, I just think I should separate threads.

Some.  Depending upon your computer, your nic, and
your application, you may or may not ever notice it.

Could you please point me to some statistics or extreme case reports? Because this would be an important decision for us
. We can live with few percent performance drop, but anything else requires deep thiking over.

There are a lot of variables.  I might suggest
a simple test with your setup - cp -V a file across 
qnet from one hard disk on one machine to a hard 
disk on another machine, several times - with bind=en0
and bind=ip.  Do NOT use /dev/shmem or /dev/null
or /dev/zero, which will skew the results.

Like I said, the speed of your cpu, the speed
of your network, the nature of your application 
traffic, io-net vs io-pkt, etc makes this a difficult 
question to answer correctly in the general case.

Thank you. I think I've got the picture now. Besides, what is this io-pkt you are mentioning? 6.3.2 hepl returns "
nothing found" on it.
