When I add *.cpp files located outside of my project to an Appbuilder project by using "Linked to file in file system" 
they are not built resulting in undefined references. 

This problem also occurs in Static Libray prpjects as well. I tried to build a static library to surconvent the 
Appbuilder problem, but still no luck.

This works in Managed Make projects, therefore I assume I need to do something manually. Can someone tell me what needs 
to be done?

Perhaps sharing source adcross many projects can be done another way from Linged Files?
