What file stores the project type ?   
Customer creates a static library project, and checks 'the files' into subversion.
Evidently, they don't check in enough, because when they check it out, it defaults back to a C application.

What do they need to check in/out to 'remember' the project type ?
Is it just the x86/a subdirs, or is there a metafile that 'knows' this stuff ?

Depends what project type it is. Look like this is Qnx Project? Most of the stuff stored in makefiles (Makefile and 
common.mk) in this case.

Yes, I believe that this is a QNX project - they swear that checking it in then out loses the library type and reverts 
to application... Most odd.

Maybe .cproject gets corrupted.  Happens to me all the time.

There is another flag in Main page called "share project" if you enable that it will also
store some other settings such as active configurations in .settings/ directory in project. They can try that.
