Forum Topic - Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?: (12 Items)

Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?
Am running pre-created VM (QNX_Eval_RT.zip) from QNX 6.4.0 eval DVD.
It starts fine, but mouse does not work and mouse cursor is not visible.
Keyboard does work.

Vmware version is Workstation 7 beta2 (185517)

Is this normal? Does mouse work in older VMware (6.5.x) ?

Thanks,
S.

Works fine for me with 6.5.0

It works fine with 6.5 - I haven't tried the VMWare Workstation 7 beta though.

Re: Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?
Thanks for your replies.

Actually the mouse is detected, but the mouse cursor is invisible
(so it is hardly usable).

Same behavior with Workstation 7 Release Candidate, build-197124 (released today).

Regards,
S.

Sounds like a hardware cursor issue then. Try disabling that?

I'll give the beta a go sometime soon. Thanks for the heads-up. Any
other issues?

Re: Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?
Colin, thanks for reply. Could you tell me how to disable the hardware cursor?
I am very new to QNX.

Experts on the VMware forum adviced to downgrade virtual hardware version to 6, and try different guest OS type. Tried
both - no improvement.

My host video adapter is" Intel G31/33"
 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29C2&SUBSYS_D0001458&REV_02
Driver v.6.14.10.4820

I rather won't like to reinstall Vmware 5.x or 6.5.
Besides, it takes terribly long time and two reboots :(

- S.

Just to confirm, I'm using this file:
http://www.qnx.com/download/download/19613/QNX_Eval_RT.zip

Also posted on VMware 7 forum:

Re: Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?
Click on "Configure->Display" and there is a combo box for hardware/software cursor, right under the frequency selector.

Cheers,

Colin

Re: Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?
This solution worked for me, thanks!
Re: Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?
Ok, it looks like the Eval VM has the software cursor selected, and
that doesn't work for some weird reason!

I changed the selection to hardware cursor (with some difficulty) and it worked
fine.

I'll raise a PR with the graphics guys to investigate.

Cheers,

Colin

Thank you, Colin, this was it!

Re: Why no mouse in the eval Neutrino 640 VM?
This problem still exists in VMWare 9. If you can manage to change the cursor to hardware it will work. I suggest
updating the VM image to select hardware cursor by default.
