Forum Topic - gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list: (14 Items)

gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list
I just installed the 4.2.1 compiler into my qnx620 directory as described, but I can't seem to get the compiler to show
up in the configurations list.

Thanks
Kevin
Re: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list
In the configurations listed in the IDE or the output of qcc -V?

Did the qcc conf files get installed into $QNX_HOST/etc/qcc/gcc/4.2.1/? Did they get proper permissions?

Regards,

Ryan Mansfield

Yes, interestingly enough they show up with qcc -V.

Its under windows, are there still some permission settings that I need to be concerned with ?

Thanks
Kevin

Re: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list
I just cleaned out my workspace .metadata folder and recreated the workspace in hopes they would get picked up, but to
no avail.

Thanks

Kevin are you referring to the qnx630 directory? Which version of the SDK do you have installed currently?

Wade

RE: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list
Hi Kevin,

I will greatly appreciate if you describe in details your step-by-step
process of installing the system that you having issues on, including the
order of installation, the type of user you logged in during the
installation and during the time you experienced the issues. Details like
the following might help in narrowing down the root cause of the issue:
   - Which version of Windows are you using?
   - The QNX Momentics 6.3.2 install was on clean systems or there was
previous version of Momentics on the same machine?
   - Are you using IDE Tau Alpha I, or you are using IDE 4.0.1 coming with
QNX Momentics 6.3.2?
   - Did you check the checksums of the downloaded installation files?

Thank you!
Regards,
Yov

Windows XP. I'm an admin on my computer.

Yes, I uninstalled QNX630 and patches (uninstalled the patches first). After the uninstallation, I installed 6.3.2 and
then downloaded GDB 6 binaries for x86 and PPC and copied those to the correct places (been using it, so I think it is
in the right place).

Then downloaded gcc 4.2.1 and followed the instructions. They seem to be in the right place as the new stuff follows
the directory structure of the default versions.

IDE 4.0.1

No, I rarely do figuring (maybe incorrectly) that the compression used would complain if there was corruption.

RE: RE: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list
Did you run the \Utilities\QNXWinCleanup.exe after uninstalling QNX
Momentics 6.3.0 from your Windows host?
(The QNXWinCleanup.exe tool can be found in the QNX Momentics 6.3.2 install
CD for Windows host. The Release Notes for the tool are in the same
\Utilities folder).

If you have the time and a possibility of doing it you may want to try
either one of the following:

A.) Install QNX Momentics 6.3.2 on a clean Windows XP system and see if the
gcc 4.2.1 compiler will be listed in IDE 4.0.1 after dropping the following
zip files in the proper locations: win32-gcc-4.2.1.zip and
win32-binutils-2.17.zip

B.) Uninstall QNX Momentics 6.3.2 from your current installation, run the
above mentioned QNXWinCleanup.exe tool, make sure that there are no any QNX
leftovers (files, folders, etc.) on the machine and repeat A.

Just to let you know how I got gcc 4.2.1 listed while trying to reproduce
the issue on clean Windows XP system by implementing steps from A.):
- started IDE 4.0.1 from the desktop icon created as a result of QNX
Momentics 6.3.2 installation
- pointed to new workspace folder
- created new QNX C Project
- right click on the project and choose Properties
- QNX C/C++ Project
- Compiler
- Compiler type: GNU Compiler Collection (4.2.1)

Hope this info will help you!

Regards,
Yov

Yov,

Thanks, I should have tried this. I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't, then I'll do the extensive surgery you suggested
. I'll get to it later today.

Thanks again,
Kevin
Re: RE: RE: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list
Yov,

I just tried your suggestion, and no joy. Can't seem to get the 4.2.1 tools to show up. Any other ideas (besides
completing uninstallinga and reinstalling)?

Is it supposed to query the compiler when the New Project, Select a type of project dialog is displayed?

Thanks
Kevin

RE: RE: RE: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations list
Kevin,

I would like to clarify which configuration list are you referring to in
your messages (this thread Subject: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the
configurations list), just to make sure that we both are discussing the
correct issue.

The list of compilers within the IDE can be seen after you create QNX C
Project or QNX C++ Project (but not Standard C or C++ Project) and right
click on the project, choose Properties / Compiler / Compiler Type. The
compiler list will not be displayed during the New Project Wizard creation
action.

Please, let me know what is the result after a clean install in case you
decide to try it.

Meanwhile I will appreciate if you can send me:
   - text file containing the output of the command execution "qcc -V" from
the command line
   - text file containing the output of the command execution "qconfig" from
the command line
   - screen capture or just text based capture of the compiler versions that
you can see listed from the QNX C/C++ Project / Properties / Compiler /
Compiler Type list within the IDE.

I attached herein a zip file "QNX_Momentics_632_Info.zip" containing the
above mentioned info snapshot from my QNX Momentics 6.3.2 (+gcc 4.2.1)
machine.

Thanks!
Regards,
Yov

Okay, now I'm getting somewhere. It's the Managed C++ projects that I'm having troubles with. The QNX C++ project
works fine.

Attached is a a zip file the outputs you requested.

How do I get the Managed C++ projec to show the 4.2.1 choices?

Thanks
Kevin

RE: RE: RE: RE: gcc 4.2.1 doesn't show up in the configurations l ist
Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your screenshot and for clarifying that the issue that you are
experiencing is within the managed build projects. It is a known issue with
IDE 4.0.1 that you are using, which already has been fixed in IDE Tau Alpha
I.

You can download and read how to install IDE Tau Alpha I from here:
http://community.qnx.com/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.ide/wiki/Builds_Tau_Al
pha_I

1. Install IDE Tau Alpha I in QNX Momentics 6.3.2 environment in a separate
folder
2. Start IDE Tau Alpha I and in C/C++ Perspective / Project Explorer View
right click and create New / C Project. Finish the project specification and
settings.
3. Right click on the created project in Project Explorer and select
Properties / C/C++ Build / Settings / Tool Settings / Target / Compiler -
you will be able to see a list of all properly installed compilers in your
QNX Momentics 6.3.2 folder including your Gcc 4.2.1.

Hope this helps!
Regards,
Yov
