Proc fault
Hi,

From time to time we experience Proc faults.
Here are two pictures using Proc32 version 425.R.

I have read the QNX 4.25 System Architecture - The Process Manager,
Reading a QNX Proc Dump - http://www.qnx.com/developers/qnx4/qnx4kb/solution.html?code=9545
and Intel - Pentium SW Developers Manual - System Programming.

And all i can gather from Proc fault is:
processor exception #GP (general protection)
privity level 1 (inside Proc code segment)
and LDT index 0

Is there more information we can get from the dump?
We usually get answer that it is kernel data corruption, but no advice how to avoid these.

Note that we are not able to reproduce the problem, so far it seems random and the machines on which it occurs are in
production on customer site.

Thank you,
stepan hejny

Re: Proc fault
Hi Stepan,

As I can see you have two different kernel crash screens, they have different crash addresses at least (cs:eip). Are
these screens from the same machine? If not then there may be different causes for the crash. If these screens from the
same machine then it may be an issue with hardware.

Do you have more crash screens? Do they all have different crash address? Does the crash occur only on one particular PC
or hardware configuration? Can you reproduce the crash on another hardware / virtual machine?

Respectfully,
Oleg

Re: Proc fault
Hi Oleg,

These two screens are from different machines.
We have more screens, not from Proc32 425.R, but from Proc32 425.X Mar 02 2007, i will attach one example, but we can
provide more.
The eip which occurs most is 1461a, other addresses are 1462c, ca7a, 182c3.
Crashes occur on multiple machines, the machines are industrial PCs typically using same hardware configuration.
As far as i know, we are unable to reproduce the crash.

Thanks,
stepan hejny

Re: Proc fault
Hi Stepan,

Can you test your configuration with the latest Proc32 (with fixed -E0)? Send me crash screens with latest Proc32 if any
. I'll try to analyze them.

Respectfully,
Oleg

Re: Proc fault
Hi Oleg,

We will use the latest Proc32.

I don't have any crash screen from latest Proc32.
The incident rate is quite low, but when it happens, i'll post it here.

Thanks,
stepan hejny
Re: Proc fault
Hi Stepan,

I'll wait for your input. Then I'll try to analyze the crash, but it may be heavy without possibility to reproduce it.

Respectfully,
Oleg
