QNX 4.25 driver for Marvwell Gigabit Ethernet
Hi All,
Do we have QNX 4.25 driver for Marvell 88E8053 Gigabit Ethernet chip.?
If not if we have to develop can we get any DDk for QNX4.25 or any network card reference source ?

Regards
Praveen

There is no DDK aside Net.fd, check the doc in /etc/readme/...

Hey Hugh. Is there any reason we can't give out the QNX4
pcnet ethernet driver source? I wrote it from the data sheet
about 20 years ago, so it doesn't have an NDA problem.

As per our discussion, we don't give out QNX network driver source, as
it is a support nightmare.

I have cc'd Martin.

Hugh.

Can anybdy help me on how to start writing this driver? I feel only Net.fd in /etc readme is not sufficient? ANy thing
else we can get even if it is unsupported?

I argued your case at the meeting - I wanted to release
the QNX4 amd pcnet ethernet driver - but no dice.

We've been down this road many times before. The problem
is that even though everybody agrees up front that the
source is provided "as is" and "without support", it
never, ever happens that way.

It quickly turns into an unending maintenance project,
and often times it would have taken less time to simply
write the driver ourselves.

Do you have a TAM or CE person that could help you get
the source and set up the terms of support? There are
absolutely no legal problems with releasing you the amd
pcnet QNX4 ethernet driver, just support problems.

Thanks for arguing my case.
BUt unfortunately i don't have any TAM or CE.

Sigh. Ok, here's one last shot:

It doesn't cost very much to write and mail a
(paper) letter. So, get some thick, creamy paper
and a fresh printer cartridge with nice, dark ink
and write a very nice letter, addressed to:

  Manager, Hardware Support Team
  QNX Software
  175 Terence Matthews Cresent
  Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
  K2M 1W8

Explain your situation - that you request the source
to the QNX4 AMD PCNET ethernet driver, which you understand
is completely free of any (e.g. NDA) legal complications,
for the purpose of you writing a driver for a marvell
ethernet nic.

Explain that you understand that the main concern with the
release of the aforementioned software is disproportionately
large amounts of support required for such projects in the
past.

To address this concern, you promise to never, ever
contact QNX software in respect of support for this
project of yours, and that you personally guarantee
that if you renege on this promise, you will go down
to your parking lot, tear off a car antenna, and whip
yourself in exculpation, and a video of said event will
promptly appear on youtube.

If that doesn't work, you can always try calling Dan
at home after 10pm eastern time :-)

There is pretty much everything that needs to be known in the stuff you mentioned. You might want to look in the old
quics database (don't know if it's available).

I've done two of these drivers driver before and it's not that bad. Although there is extra overhead compare to native
overhead which could have a negative impact at for high speed link.
