Forum Topic - Are any IP compression techniques supported?: (2 Items)

Are any IP compression techniques supported?
Does anyone know if QNX 6.3 networking supports any of the IP compression techniques? Specifically I'm interested in
ROHC or RTP (RFC2508) protocol stack or IP header compression (RFC 2507)?

I've been asked to study the possibility of sending UDP data over VSAT (low bandwidth satellite) to remote customers and
ROHC or RTP would seem to be the ideal way to reduce bandwith for sending ethernet traffic.

We also have a potential customer asking us about using our product over low bandwidth wireless ethernet as well.

I did a quick google search and another in the helpviewer but didn't see anything that looked like there might be
support for it.

Would QNet help in this regard in any way?

If neither ROHC or RTP is supported would it be possible to find source code for those techniques, port it to QNX and
interface it to io-net?

TIA,

RE: Are any IP compression techniques supported?
I can't seem to find any reference to ROHC on netBSD , so it's unlikely
that it's in io-net. I assume when you mean ROHC or RTP you mean ROHC
for RTP (since RTP is a protocol not a compression scheme)? RTP itself
isn't supported on io-net although I believe that there are various open
source implementations that can port over.

QNET likely won't help. It was initially designed for a low latency LAN
enviroment (and isn't IP based at all). It may be possible to tune time
outs and such to work over a VSAT link, but I'm not sure how easy it
would be.

In terms of getting source, you'll have to check with your local sales
rep. For 6.3, there was an Extended Networking TDK that included source
for the stack (up to a point). For 6.4, the source is obviously all
available here on the Foundry. As a side note, the io-pkt stack can be
built and run on 6.3.2 although we don't support that configuration.
