(BCM5721 and BCM5724) NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express - Device Drive for QNX 6.4
Hi there,

I'm new to QNX, and installed QNX 6.4 and need the networking feature, as I
am testing a middleware.

I have two network card in my dell precision T7400. They are both Broadcom.

The pidin returns a

(BCM5721 and BCM5724) NetXtreme Gigabite Ethernet PCI Express - and the
"shim" only picks up one of them!

Does QNX 6.4 have a device deriver for these models!

I did a search and realised most of the Broadcom cards have "devn-tigon3.so"

1) Is it compatible for 6.4?

2) How do I download the driver, and install it please.

Regards,

Amir Sadrossadat

Please can you supply the output from 'pci -v' so that I can see what
device IDs you have?

Re: RE: (BCM5721 and BCM5724) NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express - Device Drive for QNX 6.4
Thank you Hugh, Andrew, and also Andy from Symmetry.
1)The Vendor ID for both is 14e4h (Broadcom).
2) I did attempt to add following two lines into my /etc/rc.d/rc.local
*) ‘slay –fQ io-pkt-v4-hc’ and ran
**) 'io-pkt-v4-hc -d tigon3 did=0x14e4h vid=0x1659h -d tigon3 did=0x0x14e4h, vid=0x167ah
3) When I reboot “ifconfig” shows (en0) and (en1). which is great :)
4) I then use the configuration->network and add in the ip-addresses, and make it enable, and all is good. I can ping
and see my networks. However, when I restart the machine, It all goes back to only one “en0” again! My guess is the
fact of reloading the driver “in rc.local” clears any saved setting!!

Another *driver* problem that I have had is the configurator->display drive. The Driver has been picked up as "vesabios"
. The HW/Details shows a "nVidia, Quadro FX 1700, vid= 0x10de did=0x40f index=1", and the QNX hardware site suggests a "
devg-tnt.so" for all nVidia family! Does 6.4 supports this H/W?
I’ve added a line to the /etc/system/enum/drivers/graphics it now comes with the “fatal error popup window saying,
Load_display_info(): unable to for “0x10de,0x40f,1” Which I can only "EXIT".
*) I can’t log in as super user! So I am kind of stuck!

I appreciate your input here.
Many thanks,
Amir

The 167a device ID was not in our driver, so that is why you only got
en0. I have attached an experimental driver with that device ID added.
Please try it and let us know if it solves the problem.

Hugh.

I am not a graphics person, so I will forward your question to a
graphics person. AFAIK the nVidia chips are not supported by QNX. To
overcome your problem, boot from the installation CD and choose the "run
from CD" option. You can then look under /fs to find your disk
partition, then "cd /fs/your_partition/etc/system/config". Then you can
do a "> nophoton" and reboot your machine without the CD. You can then
login in text mode.

I have no idea why the gui is not working. I just realized that you will
also have to update your /etc/system/enum/devices/net file. Search for
tigon3 in the file and then copy one of the existing lines and edit it
to add the new device ID (167a). Once you reboot the machine, both

I try to log out, and 'Exit to text mode" but it hangs!

The 167a device ID was not in our driver, so that is why you only got en0. I
have attached an experimental driver with that device ID added.
Please try it and let us know if it solves the problem.

Hugh.

devn-tigon3.so is the io-net driver for broadcom 57xx
nics - it runs under the shim with io-pkt on 6.4

devnp-bge.so is a port of the BSD driver for the
broadcom 57xx nics.

As Hugh says, we need the output of

  # pci -v

to figure out which DID you have.
