Forum Topic - Micrel KS8841 driver and PI7C9X110 PCIe2PCI bridge: (4 Items)

Micrel KS8841 driver and PI7C9X110 PCIe2PCI bridge
Hi,

With one of our new design we are using 2 KS8841 on the board (Atom).
We already used the KS8841 on other design with QNX (6.3.2 and 6.4.1) without any problem (using devn-micrel8841.so).
On this design the KS8841 was behind a PCIe 2 PCI bridge (PI7C9X110) configured in forward transparent mode.

With this configuration we are not able to to get stable situation. A 'ping -s 1500' was enough to make the interface
not working anymore. There is no more messages in sloginfo even if the driver is started with verbose=4.

Then I would like to know:
- did you already use the devn-micrel8841.so behind PCIe 2 PCI bridge?
- is there some updates on the devn-micrel8841.so? (I run some tests with QNX 6.4.1 and 6.5 each time with the version
of the driver included in the distribution).
- is there an io-pkt version of this driver?

Thanks for the help.
Christophe

There should no difference in the performance of the network driver, whether
it is behind a PCI bridge or not.
See my answers in-line.

Re: Micrel KS8841 driver and PI7C9X110 PCIe2PCI bridge
Hello Hugh,

Thank you for the reply.

For the moment we are still not able to see if the problem is related to the HW or a configuration of the bridge and/or
the 8841.

For the moment a PCI scan show that the 8841 tries to read from the main memory and never gets an answer. In this case
the 8841 requesting the PCI bus all the time.

Do you know if it's possible to use the devn-micrel8841.so without DMA?

Thanks,
Christophe

Re: Micrel KS8841 driver and PI7C9X110 PCIe2PCI bridge
Looking at the driver source, it uses descriptors for transmit and receive,
so it will only run in DMA mode. Maybe there is some bridge setup required
to get it working.

Hugh.
