Can't install pluging
4.6 Ubuntu, trying to install a plug-in called tasktop. The packages includes some patches that applies to various
flavor of Eclipse. The installer complains that one of the update needs a feature org.eclipse.platform (3.5.0), that
makes sense since this is a patch for Eclipse 3.5.0. The problem is that even if I uncheck this option the error is
still there and I can't install.

I've contact the tasktop people and they claim this is a bug with Eclipse.

What should I do.
Re: Can't install pluging
IDE 4.6 uses Eclipse 3.4.2. If feature requires Eclipse 3.5 you cannot install it using update site. Even if you can
install it directly (by unzipping) it probably won't
work since dependency is not satisfied...

Maybe I wasn`t clear. One of the item is optional and is to be installed only if Eclipse 3.5 is used. Since it`s not
Eclipse 3.5, unselecting the item should get rid of the error as it would mean you don`t want to install it . But
whether the item is selected or not makes no difference. The installer still complain that a dependencies isn`t fulfill.

I`ll send a screen shot tomorrow.

Re: Can't install pluging
Screenshot? Are you using new installer (p2) or old one? Old one is less strict, it comes by default with Momentics IDE.

New one would be only if you install it manually (or update to Eclipse SDK).
If you get plugins yourself you can just drop them in plugin folder and should work theoretically.

See attached file. Notice how the "Tasktop Resource Refresh Patch for Eclipse 3.5 1.0.3" is unselected but there is
still an error.

The old one, I thing.

Everytime I played with the plugin folder hell ensued ;-) But will try since I seems to have no other option.

Re: Can't install pluging
Is it possible that this 3.5 patch is required by one of the feature
your selected? Can you check your IDE log file or post the log file here?

Anything is possible, but the tasktop people tells me that it should work with 3.4.

The install process doesn't add anything to the log file

Re: Can't install pluging
The one that has an error now (in Client group) does it require 3.5?

In theory no, it's meant for both 3.4 and 3.5. They provide a different install site for 3.3.

Woops I lied, somehow the update site is the same whatever version of eclipse I use. I just tried to install it on 6.4.
0 and no problem. The difference is that it doesn't offer any option to install patches. Looking at the id and
revision number of each components, they are the same whether I install from 6.4.0 (Eclipse 3.3) or 6.4.1 (Eclipse 3.5).

RE: Can't install pluging
The problem seems to be coming from the tasktop side and not Eclipse.
