IDE 4.7 minus subversion
I need to install subclipse. I'm a bit nervous at the idea of having both at the same time. I'm trying to uninstall
subversive, but the uninstall button is disabled. Any idea?
Re: IDE 4.7 minus subversion
Hi, Mario,

In the parlance of the Eclipse platform's provisioning system, the
Momentics IDE feature includes the Subversive feature. Consequently,
uninstalling Subversive would invalidate the IDE installation, so the
provisioning system does not permit that. Hence the disabled button.

AFAIK, Subclipse and Subversive should be able to coexist. They
maintain separate repository metadata in the Eclipse Team framework and
shouldn't interfere with one another. That said, I have never tried it
nor heard of any "success stories" in coexistence. At least they do
both use the SVNKit implementation :-)

Cheers,

Christian

RE: IDE 4.7 minus subversion
The Momentics IDE feature does not include the Subversive feature.
Subversive is added using P2 director similar to running the P2
installer so it can be uninstalled.

The reason you see the "uninstall" button being disabled is because you
are running your personal profile which is the default settings in IDE.
If you re-direct your configuration area to the IDE installation
location using this command line option:

<IDE_install_location>/qde -configuration
<IDE_install_location>/configuration

you will see the "uninstall" button enabled. You have to be the owner of
the <IDE_install_location>. After you finish the uninstall, run the IDE
in normal way with "-clean" option to refresh your personal profile.

We have not tested the uninstall so (in the usual texts :-) it's not
recommended.

Regards,
Andy

Thanks, Andy, for the correction!

In the "Installation Details" dialog launched from the About window, the
Subversive feature is shown nested under the Momentics IDE feature
(com.qnx.tools.ide.momentics.feature.group). Looking further, I see
that it is also listed under that feature's parent item,
com.qnx.tools.ide.momentics.ide. I guess this indicates that it was
installed after the fact by the P2 director.

Why does it appear in both places?

Thanks,

Christian

Yes it's misleading. It also shows "Eclipse CVS client" feature is part of the momentics feature group. I guess P2
director is not completed identical to P2 installer.
The product only defines one feature being the Momentics feature - maybe that also contribute to this.

It almost work, the problem is that after uninstalling subversive the IDE (4.7) was back using the old installer and
subversive was still there. I`ve try to reinstall everything but I`m running into problems, seems like I screwed my
installation. I was warned ;-)

That being said this whole install and uninstall of plug-ins in Eclipse is unbelievably crappy, for all the great
designs and concept that when into the Eclipse concept, the whole concept of install/uninstall/update is a total failure
. It`s the kind of thing that ruins all the time saving that a environment like that is supposed to save you compare to
 non IDE development.

I`m curious, say within a 1 year period how many time a typical developer will have to reinstall everything because
their setup got screw up.
