Forum Topic - Blank pane on right hand side of editor window: (9 Items)

Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
When bringing up an editor window in the 4.6 IDE, a blank pane is opened to the right of the text. It clearly is
associated with the remainder of the editor windows, since it is carrying the minimize and maximize buttons, but it is
presented as a separate window, and it can't be removed (or at least you can't slide the partition in the editor window
to shrink it to nothing).

I'm sure I'm missing something quite obvious, but what is this pane used for?
Re: Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
Are you refering to the "Outline" view. It's used to display a structure
view of the source file being edited. You can see it working when you
open a C source code or a make file in your editor.

If the source file type does not contribute any outline then the view
will be blank. This is the case if you edit a plain text file.

RE: Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
It isn't the outline view. I'm editing C code, and even if it compiles,
the mysterious pane is blank, but I can open an outline view window
which is being populated. Would you like a screen shot?

Re: Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
A screen shot helps.
Re: Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
The mystery area is in the middle, on the right-hand side of the editor window. I've added the outline window in the
perspective, so I know it isn't that.

Re: Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
It looks like that pane belongs to the editor area. I could only think
of one sequence of operations which could lead to this:

- Open multiple tabs in the editor, drag one tab to the right of the
editor (but left of the Outline view) and release it so that it becomes
a "detached" tab.
- Exit the IDE so it saves the current pane setup.
- Remove the file which the "detached" tab associated with, and restart
the IDE
- The editor still shows the "detached" tab but the file is removed.

However in my test the "detached" tab should show some texts about the
resource is out of the sync. It is not completely blank so I don't know
if my operations matche your situation.

Can you do a "Reset Perspective" to fix the problem?

BTW what O.S. platform & version are you running the IDE on?
RE: Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
It is the editor area--if I minimize it, I lose the editor window. And
this *is* the view I get when I do reset perspective. I tried resetting
it first assuming I messed something up, but nothing changed and I
assumed that this was a new IDE 4.6 feature. I don't think I detached
and removed any resources as you describe.

OS=Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, SP3
IDE=4.6.0

What I've opened is a workspace I originally created with the 6.3.2
Momentics. Could that be the problem?

If I open a new workspace, that pane goes away and I can't dupliate it
other than how you've desribed. This mystery gray pane may just be a
bug introduced because I'm using an older workspace.

Re: Blank pane on right hand side of editor window
Try "reset perspective" from Window menu. Probably leftover layout items from stuff that is no longer there.
