Install cannot access file system
Hi:
I am installing 6.3.2 on an older Dell system. I shrunk the existing NTFS 60 gb disk partition to 47 gb using a Knoppix
cd and then ran the install. I created a new 9 gb partition using the install procedure, but it then failed with "
cannot access file system".
I used fdisk from the install cd, and the partitions looked ok, I could change them, and I could even write the boot
loader, but it would not install. The /dev directory had a hd1, but the partitions were not visible.
I tried creating a new partition with fdisk, but leaving an empty cylinder after the NTFS partition. The partitions
became visible after the next reboot, but when I tried the install, it deleted the new partition and created another
with no empty cylinder, so it failed again.
I finally created a small FAT32 partition, leaving an empty cylinder ahead of it, and running the install in the space
at the end. This was successful.
Have others encountered this problem? I could see nothing wrong with the fdisk output or the partition table. Perhaps
there should be a note about this,
