Commercial desktop supported
Hi,

To grouth an old application I need install QNX4 in a CURRENT desktop from HP or DELL.
Looking at the QNX4 hardware supported pages and at the thechnical pages from HP and DELL I'm not able to determine if a
particular model will run with no problems.

My application runs under Photon, and uses ethernet (native QNX and TCP/IP). So I need video and ethernet drivers for
the hardware selected. I need also one PCI slot free to insert a multiport RS232 card (I'll use a MOXA model with QNX4
drivers).

I want avoid the use of external video or network cards, if possible.

Somebody has experience using current models with QNX4?

Thanks

My commercial rep. is not able to supply me any answer.
Somebody from QNX?
RE: Commercial desktop supported
If you mean running a commercial desktop on QNX there is nothing officially
supported.

Some people got X11 running but I don't think it goes as far as running KDE
or Gnome.

Re: RE: Commercial desktop supported
Thanks for the answer Mario.

But I mean running an existing QNX4.25 and Photon 1.14 application on a new commercial hardware. I refers "desktop" as a
 type of workstation.
Re: RE: Commercial desktop supported
The HP DX2250 Microtower will run QNX4.25 and photon1.14. It comes with two PCI slots, one serial port and on board NIC
(Net.rtl). The only thing that isn't available is a correct driver for the video. If you can leave with Pg.flatdc
driver with a resolution of 1024x768x16 you should have no problem.
Re: RE: Commercial desktop supported
Thanks, I'll get a look on this machine
Re: Commercial desktop supported
I have successfully installed QNX 4.25D/E and Photon 1.14 on several "modern" platforms, including some home brew and
some Dell laptops. The main problem seemed to be the video drivers. I spec'd a Radeon video card on the Dell so that I'd
 have a driver for Photon.

Networking worked fine. The STD-BUS NE2000 card was a bit slow, and I found that Photon would do large (20 MB) file
transfers better than running them from the command line. I used a PCMCIA 10BasetT card.

If I can offer more help, let me know. I can list all the steps and setups that I went through.
