I downloaded the QNX 6.5.0 ISO image and trying to run on VMware WS 13. When QNX boots up, it asks for entering
F2 or F3 key.
With F2, QNX boots up and any changes I do (like added new files, ifconfig etc), goes away when I boot again.
With F3 option I installed QNX to a Virtual Hard disk (IDE ). Now how can I boot QNX from the Virtual Hard Disk?
Please guide.

1) Using hotkeys [ctrl]+[alt]+2 or above should allow me to use different terminals if e.g. I want to kill a running process. However, there is only one terminal available, and this key combination produces only a black screen with a single underscore as if the terminal was busy.
2) Certain in-build functions are not found or defined in my Neutrino 7.0 Operating System, e.g. clear or ps. Once I type ps in the command line, I get following error:

I am experimenting with QNX Neutrino RTOS on my virtual machine (i am using Linux KVM virt manager not VMware).
I have downloaded the iso file from http://www.qnx.com/download/download/26217/VM-QNXSDP660-201402230339.iso
But when i try to boot this image, it got stuck with following message

Unable to access /etc/io-net/en0
Please see attached file for detailed log information.
I have selected bridged networking while configuring my virtual machine.
Also I just tried to create guest OS with VM-QNXSDP660-201402230339.iso in VMWare workstation 7, but no luck. same behavior happens.
Earlier when i tried with qnxsdp-6.4.0-x86-200810211530-nto.iso, it asks for a license key. since i don't have one i can't proceed anymore with qnxsdp-6.4.0 installation.
Please provide necessary guideline to proceed my task.
I couldn't find any reference documents on this topic.

I am trying to get screen running on VMware Workstation in order to do some testing. I'm trying to use VMware Workstation 11 (trial version for now) on Windows 7 x64 pro. I have created the VM with the accelerated graphics option enabled (as per the graphics patch release notes), installed QNX660 from the VMware ISO image and then copied the files described in the graphics patch across. I did get a warning from VMware that 3D acceleration wasn't supported on this target (I had the guest OS set to "Other").
I set GRAPHICS_ROOT to "/usr/lib/graphics/VMware" and LD_LIBRARY_PATH to "/usr/lib:/lib:/lib/dll:$GRAPHICS_ROOT".
gpu_drv seems to run OK, there are no error messages and the process remains running after the prompt reappears. When I try to run screen after that I just get an error saying "Memory fault (core dumped!)". I have attached a copy of the sloginfo output and have noticed a few things:
- "3D disabled by host." - seems the warning in VMWare about 3D acceleration not being supported in the guest OS causes it to be disabled?
- invalid items in the graphics.conf file - are these caused by the above?
At this point I'm pretty lost as I find the documentation difficult to digest and I cannot find any other problems like this on the QNX, F27 or more general internet.
As an aside I tried to use vesabios instead of vmware in the GRAPHICS_ROOT. I don't run gpu_drv in that case (is that correct? it complains about not finding libvmwsvga.so so I assume it is hardcoded for VMWare driver) but I can then run screen and use display_image to successfully display an image so I assume screen is running OK under vesabios at this point. However, the ultimate aim would be to use GLES2 so I'd prefer to use native drivers.
Can anyone suggest what I might need to do to fix this or do I need to provide more information?

bios_smp.ifs

The first runs startup.sh when it starts, and the second runs startup_aps.sh (and adaptive partitioning). When you boot, you should see a message like this:

The Neutrino User's Guide used to have a chapter on controlling how Neutrino starts, but it was removed in 6.6 because it no longer applied. I guess a few references to rc.local and rc.sysinit got missed in the documentation. We've recently removed them, and we hope to update the docs on the website soon.
The buildfile for the virtual machine runs startup.sh, but I haven't tried using it. The startup_aps.sh script is supposed to be for a virtual machine that's running adaptive partitioning, but I don't think we provided one of those--I'm not sure why it's included in the virtual machineSteve Reid2014-08-13T14:41:02Zpost111405: Re: QNX 6.6 for VMware system startupDamjan Miklic(deleted)http://community.qnx.com/sf/go/post1114052014-08-13T13:48:05Z2014-08-13T13:48:05ZHi Steve,
thanks for your reply. Can you please clarify a bit the connection between self-hosted development and rc.local? I was actually trying to start the sshd deamon, which was provided with the Neutrino VM image I downloaded. Also, starting things from .profile is fine for some situations, but not for my use case of sshd, because I want to be able to log into the system remotely, even when my user is not logged in locally. There are also other situations where processes need to be started before a user logs in.
Also, which documentation are you refering to? The document I am following is "QNX Neutrino RTOS User's Guide" downloaded from the official website about two months ago. It mentions rc.local 10 times, while startup_aps.sh/startup.sh are not mentioned at all.
Thanks and best regards,

#!/bin/sh
# Start the sshd daemon.
/usr/sbin/sshd
exit 0
When I run the file manually from the terminal, the sshd daemon starts up without any problems. However, the rc.local script does not seem to be run automatically on startup. Digging a bit deeper, I found out that rc.local should be started by /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, which does not seem to be started either. Instead, only /etc/rc.d/startup_aps.sh (or, depending on the filesystem imag I select on boot, /etc/rc.d/startup.sh) seems to be run automatically on startup.
I could find no reference in the documentation on startup_aps.sh or startup.sh. Is the behavior I am seeing expected?

OK problem solved! Using a 1Gb virtual disk or 2Gb virtual disk it makes no difference. And I dont know what other settings to change and try.
Or is there any other virtual machine software that I can use to install QNX4.25 on mu laptop.

time I did it). Off the top of my head the easiest thing to try is using a
smaller virtual disk. I don't recall what the limits were but it is easy
enough to try and see if that makes a difference.
Usually when you get just the dots it means the disk geometry is different
between what the bios (virtual bios in this case) thinks and what QNX
thinks.
Hope that helps,
Rick..

I have problem after installation. I have selected 2Gb virtual hard disk IDE, 512bm RAM, IDE CD/DVD drive, floppy auto detect, Network adapter NAT, Sound card auto detect,
Display Auto detect.
When I reboot the virtual machine it just hangs up with ........dots.
What is going on I tried to install the virtual machine twice it gives the same problem. Am I doing something wrong here. Is there any other process to install the QNX 4.25 on vmware.
But on the other hand I have installed the QNX Neutrino 6.3 in vmware it works absolutely fine. Because I am working on QNX 4.25 I need this to work for me.

We have QNX version 4.25 with Photon GUI version 1.13 installed under VMWare version 6.0.3 build 80004, which is itself running on Windows XP Service Pack 3 on a Dell Vostro 220s. In only the QNX VM, we are experiencing severe mouse movement lag that hinders the usability of the system. We have tried all of the settings in Windows, VMWare, or QNX/Photon that might affect this issue and have had no success. Can anyone provide some suggestions on what might be causing this problem?
Thanks,

I've found a bug in the Pg.vmware. Error occurs when I run driver in trap mode (with -T key) on the real PC with nVidia graphics card. In this case the Pg.vmware generates followed crt line:
Null.ms;Pg.vmware.new -g0x0x0 -d0x15ad,0x405 -I0 -HNqnx/crt;#0,0,0,200,0CB,vmware - driver for VMware SVGA
So vmware driver is present in the Display configuration dialog of the phgrafx program.
Also I've found solution for this bug. There is no check of error code returned by disp_pci_init() function (file init.c, line 54):
http://community.qnx.com/integration/viewvc/viewvc.cgi/hardware/devg/vmware/init.c?revision=4&root=vmware&system=exsy1001&view=markup
I think code:
disp_pci_init(adapter, DISP_PCI_INIT_BASES);
must be replaced with:
if (disp_pci_init(adapter, DISP_PCI_INIT_BASES) < 0)
goto done;

I am very new to QNX.
Experts on the VMware forum adviced to downgrade virtual hardware version to 6, and try different guest OS type. Tried both - no improvement.
My host video adapter is" Intel G31/33"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29C2&SUBSYS_D0001458&REV_02
Driver v.6.14.10.4820
I rather won't like to reinstall Vmware 5.x or 6.5.
Besides, it takes terribly long time and two reboots :(

Actually the mouse is detected, but the mouse cursor is invisible
(so it is hardly usable).
Same behavior with Workstation 7 Release Candidate, build-197124 (released today).

As you can see, I didn't quite get to this on Monday.
When I run VMware without using Remote Desktop, QNX displays the following message:
Unable to start graphics driver(s)
and then displays a login prompt in text mode.Matt Kraai2009-08-06T23:08:28Zpost35095: Re: RE: Some window contents aren't refreshedMatt Kraaihttp://community.qnx.com/sf/go/post350952009-07-31T18:21:15Z2009-07-31T18:21:15Z> Have you tried running VMware without using Remote Desktop? I.e locally

No, I haven't tried running VMware without using Remote Desktop. I'll probably try that Monday.
I searched for this combination (VMware, QNX, and Remote Desktop) and found one post on the VMware forums, but the author was reporting lockups rather than missing refreshes.Matt Kraai2009-07-31T18:21:15Zpost35089: RE: Some window contents aren't refreshedMax Feilhttp://community.qnx.com/sf/go/post350892009-07-31T17:59:43Z2009-07-31T17:59:43ZHave you tried running VMware without using Remote Desktop? Howdy,
I'm using QNX 6.4.1 under VMware 6.5.2 build-156735 via Remote Desktop
5.1.2600.2180. When I open the Helpviewer, the content pane is never
refreshed. When I open the Web browser, nothing within the Window
decorations (i.e., title bar and edges) is refreshed. When I open the
Users configuration tool and press the Advanced button, only the window
decorations and the gray bar and "Done" button at the bottom of the User
and Group Manager window are refreshed. Does anyone know what causes
this and/or how to fix it?

This reminds me of the general problem (you see it with phindows as well)
where the double buffered containers in the web browser (which is used by
help as well) don't get updated. If I am right, it has to do with how the
vmware graphics driver represents itself to Photon.
Hopefully one of the QNX guys can comment on this.

Your sloginfo says it all - the default graphics settings for Photon on 6.4.0 don't work with the VMWare driver. Change the pixel format line in the vmware stanza to read 'pixel_format=rgb565' and it should come up for you.
(Our testbed for 6.4.0 is also VMWare Server 2.0 on CentOS 5.2 - alas we're using an old recycled desktop instead of a nice shiny server, though).
Hope this helps,
-WillWill Miles2009-01-14T23:24:11Zpost20083: QNX 6.4.0 in VMware Server 2.0.0 hosted on CentOS 5.1Chris Salvadorhttp://community.qnx.com/sf/go/post200832009-01-14T22:53:03Z2009-01-14T22:53:03ZHi everyone,
I'm having trouble starting Photon on QNX 6.4.0 running under VMware Server 2.0.0, 64-bit version. The VMware server is installed on a 64-bit Linux CentOS 5.1 rack mount Dell PowerEdge server.
Our developers each have their own rack mount server where they run VMware to host a number of VMs containing different OS's and source branches that they are working on. They attach remotely to the server from Windows machines. For QNX VMs they usually have remote graphical access through VMware's remote console or QNX's Phindows. Graphical access to the remote server's underlying CentOS is done using NX Free Remote Desktop.
The PowerEdge servers have graphics cards in them and are running a local copy of the XOrg desktop. The local graphics driver is configured for 24 bit color.
We have been using the above setup for QNX 6.3.X for a few years now and really like it. I just recently tried the first install of QNX 6.4.0 and found that Photon won't start up.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I should try to get Photon running on this system? Below are copies of my sloginfo and display.conf file. Thanks.
Chris.

I am using QNX on VMWARE. VMWARE details are VMWARE Server console, version 1.0.8.
I want to use USB Compact Flash adaptor for loading the QNX into CF.
When i connect the usb CF adaptor and check for the device in QNX it does not detect.
From the above discussions when i checked for usb supporting files in QNX (vmware) i came to know that devu-ehci.so, devu-ohci.so,devu-uhci.so and io-usb files exists with no data. Its size is 0 byte. When i try to copy the correct files into the same location i could not copy.If there is any way to replace those files or any way to detect the usb adaptor please guide me.

I eventually found, as has already been referenced, that if you load devb-btmm manually before diskboot, then everything works itself out.
I just made a copy of the normal SMP build file and added the BusLogic driver. Trouble is, you have to do this in a non-VM and then convert the disk to a VM.
For completeness, below is a copy of what I called "/boot/build/vmwareesx.build". Once you have that, just run:
mkifs /boot/build/vmwareesx.build /.boot/vmwareesx.ifs
and you should be good to go. Hopefully in the future, they'll make the normal boot CD do this correctly.

VMWare)
Hello,
I installed QNX 6.2.3 with VMWare 6.0.4 on a Vista OS.
When I try an FTP (filezilla), the connection is always refused.
I already try this way of communication with a Solaris VMWare Image and
no problem, the SFTP is running fine.
But My QNX Image don't work with any FTP or SFTP...
BUT I can access to internet fine...
Someone can help me?

devb-btmm is not included in the normal boot image, and even if it is, diskboot does not attempt to run it.Lewis Donzis2008-08-23T13:54:36Zpost12107: QNX install on vmware ESX3iLewis Donzishttp://community.qnx.com/sf/go/post121072008-08-20T16:19:51Z2008-08-20T16:19:51ZNow that VMware is giving away ESXi for free, I decided to try installing QNX on it.
First of all, VMware ESX(i) does not support IDE hard drives, only SCSI. But SCSI support is available for a QNX-compatible Buslogic host adapter, so it should be ok.
There are two problems that I see that prevent this from working:
First, On both the 6.3.0SP3 and 6.3.2 installation CDs, in /etc/system/enum/devices/block, there are two lines for the Mylex/Buslogic controllers, one of which is the correct one, but then the "requires" line loads the AMD driver instead of Buslogic!!
And second, devb-btmm does not auto-detect the virtual Buslogic controller, even though it's a supported model. If you manually specify the I/O port and IRQ, then it loads properly.
Note also that looking at our development system, once QNX is installed, /etc/system/enum/devices/block is correct, or at least tries to load the BusLogic driver, unlike the one on the CD.
Here is the excerpt from /etc/system/enum/devices/block on the installation CD:
device(pci, $(PCI_VEND_MYLEX), 1040) # Buslogic
device(pci, $(PCI_VEND_MYLEX), 8130) # Buslogic
requires(devb-amd $(DEVB_OPTIONS), "amd pci=$(index)")
Note how it detects the Buslogic controller and then loads devb-amd!
Here is the output of the "pci" command showing the virtual controller:
Class = Mass Storage (SCSI)
Vendor ID = 104bh, BusLogic
Device ID = 1040h, BT-946C (BA80C30) [MultiMaster 10]
PCI index = 0h
PCI IO Address = 1060h enabled
PCI Mem Address = f4800000h enabled
PCI Expansion ROM = 0h disabled
PCI Int Pin = INT A
Interrupt line = 9
CPU Interrupt = 9h
Here are the outputs of devb-btmm with no options, showing how it does not auto-detect the controller (the pci=0 option doesn't help), followed by forcing the ioport and irq where it loads successfully:
# devb-btmm
# xpt_configure: No btmm interfaces found
# devb-btmm btmm ioport=0x1060,irq=9
# Path=0 -
target=0 lun=0 Direct-Access(0) - VMware Virtual disk Rev: 1.0
Is there anything that can be done to "patch" the installation CD?
Thanks,

The problem exist on my systems only when the mouse speed is set to the lowest speed. The problem with the virtual boarders is only present when the host resolution is the same as the guest resolution (1024x768).
On a second system with a resolution of 1680x1050 I have at the lowest mouse speed only the problem that the speed of the mouse movement is not constant and very slow at the borders.
When the mouse speed is set to the second step I have no problems on both systems.

My suggestion would be using VMware Server without VNC. Use a browser for accessing Virtual Machines remotely.

Hi Craig,
My post should have read uhci and ehci only. I didn't include ohci yet.

Replacing the files in /proc/boot will only work until you reboot - they are the files which are in the boot image. If they need to be started at boot time, you will have to make a new boot image to include the new files.

I need to restart at least devb-umass after I have restarted io-usb.
Can I simply replace the usb files in /proc/boot with the new "experimental" files?

I tried the experimental driver(s), and it(they) didn't work for me. I'm trying to mount a USB Flash Drive (VMware reports "Feiya Removable Disk"). The Flash Drive worked on a real PC running 6.3.2 with the released drivers.
I did the following on a slightly reconfigured version of the virtual machine which is provided on the September 2007 Evaluation DVD:
#ls /dev/h*
/dev/hd0 /dev/hd0t79 /dev/hd1 /dev/hd1t77
#ls /fs
cd0 ms-dos-floppy ramdisk
#slay io-usb
#/root/usb-final/io-usb -d/root/usb-final/devu-uhci.so
# #check io-usb launched, plugin USB drive, acknowledge VMware msg
#ls /dev/h*
/dev/hd0 /dev/hd0t79 /dev/hd1 /dev/hd1t77
#ls /fs
cd0 ms-dos-floppy ramdisk
On a version 5 vm, I tried both with and without the line:
uhci.newCore="FALSE"
I also tried without the line on a version 6 vm.
What am I doing wrong? If I'm doing nothing wrong, can someone provide me with a virutal machine on which this has been shown to work.
Does USB work any better on the new VMware Server 2 beta?
Thanks,

VMware 6.0 supports also USB 2.0, so is there any plan to update also devu-ehci?

I've been working on this issue, if you're interested you can try the
attached experimental drivers. Please let me know how it worked out.
Unpack the archive but make sure you're using absolute paths to the driver
to ensure io-usb isn't picking up a different .so.
/root/usb-final/io-usb -d/root/usb-final/devu-uhci.so
(only uhci is necessary)

Some time ago USB was working fine in QNX under VMware.
Later with newer release of VMware (5.5) it was necessary to add
uhci.newCore="FALSE" to the configuration file of virtual machine.
Now, with VMware 6.0 it is not working at all.
I contacted VMware, but according to them QNX is not supported guest OS.
If you need any information - how I tested it ..., I will provide them.
